5 Super Simple Ways To Write Captivating Headlines

First of all, let me explain how to go about writing headlines that not only captivate but encourage users to engage.

The aim of the game is to make sure the user stays on the blog post, reads the email or listens to the podcast.

To do this, you must write a headline that will trigger an emotion.

It takes time to write blog posts, and so you don’t want all that time to go to waste because users don’t get past the headline.

So let’s go over 5 Super Simple Ways To Write Captivating Headlines for your blog post, email subject lines or podcasts.

#1 Create An Ultra-Specific Headline

The first rule is to be more specific with your headlines.

The more specific you are, the better. When you came across this very blog post you’re reading now, you already knew it was going to be about writing headlines before you started reading.

#2 Add The Trigger Of “Desire”

What triggers the emotion of desire? Something that someone has got that you haven’t.

You can write headlines based on “who else wants…” to create desirability around the content you are offering.

Here are a few ways you could use this headline:

  • Who Else Wants A Landing Page That Pull Leads Into Your Funnel?
  • Who Else Wants Hair Like Kim K?
  • Who Else Wants To Fly 30% Cheaper To France?

This will certainly entice people interesting in the topic to read on and find out how to get the same things others have gotten and not to feel left out.

#3 Using The Word “Secret”

Everyone loves to know the secrets! But in the online world everyone is looking for that one thing that will give them the edge in their niche, this is where the secret of experts or about something they’re interested in comes into play.

Here are a few examples of headlines using the word “secret”:

  • The Secret Of Creating Webinars That Convert
  • The Secret To Growing Your Opt In Rates
  • The Secret To Getting Your First Mortgage Approved

Don’t be afraid to let go of some of your winning secrets.  Educating your audience will place you as a leading expert in your niche.

#4 Generate Curiosity With “Everybody Should Know”

Going back to the fact that nobody likes to be left out or left behind scenario, this feeling can also be triggered by adding something along the lines of “everybody should know…” to your headline.

This will intrigue people and entice them to click through or read more.

Here are a few example of how this could be used:

  • Everybody Should Know How To Lead With Value
  • Everybody Should Know How To Host The Perfect Party
  • Everybody Should Know The Importance Of Writing Headlines

#5 Intrigue with “Little Known Ways”

A great way to get people to click through from an email, play your podcast or read your blog post is to write a headline that will intrigue them.

You can do this by adding just three words… “Little-Known Ways”.

Here are a few example of how this style of headline could be used:

  • Little Known Ways To Build A Winning Sales Funnel
  • Little Known Ways To Attract The Right Target Market
  • Little Known Ways To Lose 1 Pound In 10 Days

The Winning Headline Formula

Now that you have some ideas to get you started on making changes to your headlines, there is one more thing I want to explain… the formula for a winning headline.

This is a great reference to always refer back to when writing headlines.

The winning headline formula is:

Number Or Trigger Word + Adjective + Keyword + Promise

Using this simple formula will help transform your headline into something that will captivate email recipients and blog readers.

For example, “how to write headlines” would turn into “9 unlikely ways you can write headlines that captivate”

Below are a couple of examples you can use to get your creative juices flowing:

Examples: Strong Action Verbs

And here are some verbs that will totally stir your readers to read your post further.

Build / Make / Create / Spice Up / Apply / Break / Start / Bring / Get / Benefit / Drive / Describe / Define / Discover / Search / Exclude / Eliminate / Enhance / Beautify / Engage / Fail / Gain / Grow / Generate / Illustrate / Increase / Optimize / Overcome / Stop / Keep / Move / Maximize / Manipulate / Maintain / Perform / Promote / Play / Prepare / Prove / Shape / Show

Examples: Powerful Adjective Words

Here’s a list of adjectives that you can use to make your post titles even more appealing.

3 Big Mistakes Small Business Owners Make When Starting Online

3 Big Mistakes Small Business Owners Make When Starting Online

I sat at my desk with my head in my hands crying, why was this so hard, I kept asking myself. As if I knew or was expecting the answer to come in an audible voice over my shoulder.

Sitting at my makeshift desk in front of my laptop was just what I did, every night. While my husband and kids were settled in for the night watching TV, I would go to the table, put on my headphones and work. The thought of building a business online, working from home, working the hours that I wanted to work and help with our finances were all big draws to me back then.

Everything I read, watched, paid for and listened to all seemed so simple…

“Just do this, have a website, then do this, create a free offer, then everyone will come.”

Well here I am, many years later and while I haven’t reached the level of success that I’m shooting for, I will say I’m so much closer.

So what did all those nights studying, listening and planning really do for me?

Let’s see….

It’s so easy today, to get something that looks like a business up and running. I mean the information out there can seem very overwhelming but also very informative.

I see people all the time thinking that “If they just build it, people will come” it’s sad but I believe we all need to go through this time to really get our feet wet in this online journey.

This start-up phase is really the weeding out part of business ownership, because this is the time that you will see what you’re really made of and if you got the goods to keep going.

But that’s for another time, today I want to share with you 4 of the biggest mistakes I see new online small business owners make today.

#1 Not Solving A Problem:

Today everyone is talking about Passion, you have to find your passion and then build from there. If you don’t have the passion for what you’re doing, how can you do it for very long? You will get burned out rather quickly.

But I have a little problem with the passion thing. I can have a passion for a number of things like swimming, boating or jazz music. However, when thinking about an online business is my passion in these areas enough to reach the goals I’m looking for. Probably Not!

The reason is because when coming online the number one thing people are searching for is a solution to a problem they are facing. If you can find a problem and offer a solution, you’re well on your way to the lifestyle you’re seeking.

You have to know and understand a problem and then offer the solution.

So think of your own life, what problems have you found solutions for? What do you just know how to do without thinking about it, that most of us don’t know? What do you love doing (your passion) that you found out how to do it better? These are just some of the questions you could ask yourself to get you moving in the direction of online business owner.

#2 Focusing To Much On The Little Things

Online there are so many moving parts. This is the overwhelming part of your business journey. Spending your precious time on things that really don’t matter in the beginning is different for each of us. So for me to tell you what really is a waste of your time is a little harder than it can seem.

Although I do want to offer some advice here: Learning to FOCUS your time and energy to moving your business forward is a skill that will be developed over time. But being aware of the umpteen distractions that will come your way is pivotal.

Being pulled in a zillion directions is part of the process, but learning how to put the blinders on, stay focused on the goal along with picking and choosing carefully who and what you’re listening to will definitely move you forward much quicker.

Only you, the business owner, determines the direction, the way, and the goal of your business. This leads us to point 3.

#3 Thinking That One Size Fits All

Many coaches and consultants, myself included can teach and train you on how to build your online business. The thing you have to remember is that each of us has taken the time through trial and error figuring out what works best for our personalities, our families, our goals and visions.

With that said, just because someone is teaching you “How to create an email follow-up series” because it worked great for them. Doesn’t really guarantee you the same success. It’s not because the steps or processes didn’t work, it’s because they have invested the time and energy into figuring out how to flow with their skill set, personality, and learning curve this list can go on and on.

My point I want to make for you is this; The basic design of your online business will be the same as mine and many others. The way you achieve the success and reach your goals can be through a thousand different ways.

It’s not…This worked for me so I know it will work for you way.

A good coach will teach you about all the moving parts, but then an excellent coach will help you pick and choose which parts to apply based on your personality, your time restraints, your family situation and your budget. Choose Wisely, My Friend.

UnRealistic Goal Setting

UnRealistic Goal Setting

We’ve all heard the quote by Benjamin Franklin “Those who Fail to Plan, Plan to Fail.”

While I’m sure that when we think about this, it sounds like a no-brainer, Right? Right! But as we sit here and begin to really put our goals for this New Year down on paper, our goals can take on a mind of their own. The more we write them down, it can seem like we’re seeing them in concrete. They are solid, stuck, stiff and non-flowing. This becomes a problem early n in our goal setting session because we can plan a goal or project but it still needs some flowing room. Goals cannot be set in stone, they have to be able to move and grow with us.

So something that has worked for me and many of my clients is to break the goal down into the smallest task that you possibly can.

Before we look at this a little closer lets reexamine how goals are typically birthed.

In the Goal Setting 101 format, we are told tirelessly to make SMART Goals: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Bound. I’ve always had such a hard time with this, I think because all the tasks or goals are either too big or too far out there. They tend to feel not real to me so, in turn, it’s hard for me to stay focused on them.

In the traditional model of goal setting there seemed to be the ability to look to far out into the future. So the process of just in the sitting down and thinking and trying to put them down in writing was overwhelming, and because of that, I always felt like a failure before I even started, like a fish out of the water.

It wasn’t until I heard a training on a 90-day plan did things begin to click for me.

The idea is simply to set your goal for 90-days. Simple Right?

A 90-day goal plan for me was my ticket to finally feel like I could accomplish something great. It is small enough time frame that feels like it’s doable, plus I could see the goal finished, what it would look like and really sense how it would feel.

It didn’t feel like it was so far out of reach that it was unable to become real to me.

Really setting a SMART goal within a 90-day plan now makes so sense.

So let’s break this down:

*Work on one goal in a 90 day period

*Break this goal down into small daily activities (Bite size pieces)

            *Celebrate Daily Successes

*Remember Direction is more important than Speed

*Focus on Progress, not Perfection (Making Mistakes is Part of the Process)

Growing an Online Business can seem overwhelming at times, especially if you’re starting as a Solopreneur. Working on your social media, producing content, producing free giveaways, doing videos, blog posts, social media posts, I mean the list is endless!

But in our 90-day plan, we work on one thing, one avenue to focus on. Let’s for a minute forget the far-reaching goal and focus on baby steps. Let’s think what I can do today or this week to push my business in the right direction. Or what can I do today to put myself out in front of my ideal audience.

Focusing on small wins builds your confidence and begins the momentum that all business leaders need.

What I have found is that when I tried to set goals that were too big and I didn’t accomplish them, I felt like a Failure. And the more times this happens the less I wanted to do.

When you’re trying to look at the Big Picture it can seem Daunting! There are way too many “Have To’s” that for most of us with busy lives already the fun is gone and we are heading towards giving up before we really had time to start.

Looking at Small Daily Wins and Celebrating these and your Ability to accomplish them is a definite move towards progress.

Progress Drives Motivation…Which In Turns Drives Greater Progress!

Learning To Be Comfortable With The Uncomfortable

Learning To Be Comfortable With The Uncomfortable

“Real Life begins at the edge of your comfort zone.”

I’m sitting here writing this today knowing good and well that I’m actually writing it to myself as much as for you. It’s so much easier to sit back and let life happen. We all are guilty of it to some degree and when we realize what’s happening we wake up and can’t believe how much time has gone by and we’re still a long way from our dreams.

Our comfort zones are a place within our minds where we are the most comfortable but mostly a place where we feel the most in control.

Ah, I think that’s the biggest clue to why it’s easier to settle and let life go by…it’s because we are in the most control and honestly we have a hard time giving up that control.

When I think of the times when I’ve disappointed myself because of not following through with a plan or when I wasn’t focused and allowed a number of other things to get in the way of my goal. Or at the end of the day realizing that it didn’t turn out the way I planned and thinking “ O well, tomorrow is another day”… I have fallen prey to the old familiar force of living in my comfort zone and allowing resistance to push me back.

Sometimes living in this cycle is easier than actually doing the work that I call my dream. Maybe you can relate…?

You start you day with good intentions, only to get pulled in 15 different directions as the day unfolds and before you know it, you’re so tired, dinner needs to be made, you can’t focus on another thing…Whatever the reason, everything you wanted to work on has to be pushed to the next day…AGH!!! Hence the CYCLE!

So what’s stops us from fulfilling our dreams, or rising above the status quo of everyday life? What’s holding onto us so tightly that sometimes we don’t even realize another day or week has gone by and we’re still at the same place we were days ago.

I believe it’s called “Our Comfort Zone”

Our Comfort zone is set up to keep us comfortable, so as we learn in life what feels good and what doesn’t, our comfort zone is setting up invisible borders that are meant to keep us safe and to live our lives with certainty.

Certainty is the key word because in our subconscious mind we like things and life to be a certain way.

We like to know the outcome, to be assured that when we do this, that is going to happen.

Well when you open the entrepreneurial door, Certainty fly’s out the window.

Certainty is the belief that something is TRUE!

It doesn’t matter if it’s real or not, you believe it’s TRUE!

So how do you get comfortable with the uncomfortable goals to go after your dreams?

#1 Know Your Edge!

Recognize that in order to go forward with your goal or dream you are going to come to some brick walls that have to be scaled. These walls are the edge of your comfort zone and remember their there to keep you safe and comfortable.

#2 Pay Attention To Your Mind Games!

Our thoughts are one of the most powerful weapons we have available to us. But they can also be our most powerful weapon being used against us. Pay attention to what is going on in your thoughts.

#3 Stir Up Courage

Courage is the ability to do something even thou we’re afraid. This dream you have on the inside of you wouldn’t be there if you didn’t have the ability inside to accomplish it. Courage is Confidence to keep moving forward even thou you’re scared. It’s getting comfortable facing the fear and uncertainty that lies ahead.

Here’s a thought when facing Fear and Uncertainty…

Fear and uncertainty are your lights that are lighting the path to your Purpose!

We have to learn how to embrace them and once we do our Courage, Confidence, Boldness and Visions begin to unfold in the form of our Dream.

“Life Begins At The Edge Of Your Comfort Zone”

Know that the bigger your dreams, the more edges you will have to break through. Success is a step by step process that takes time.

You’ll have to work on not only your dreams but you’ll have to work on yourself, your inner man….

To Rise Above And Get Comfortable With The Uncomfortable!

Use Your Passions – Skills and Decades of Experience To Make A Difference

Use Your Passions – Skills and Decades of Experience To Make A Difference

It’s funny in a way because as this new avenue was being developed in me, I was finding it hard to put the words together to articulate what I was really feeling and sensing inside.

This voice inside of me kept getting louder and more noticeable as time was going on. This voice that was urging me to “Discover Me” and the same question that I’m sure you hear as well…”What’s my Purpose?” and “What Difference Am I Making”

As fate would have it, the more I pondered these thoughts, the more I took the time to really listen and discover ME, the more I have been introduced to a world of MORE.

Tradition and Society have been laying the ground work for us Older and Wiser Women, you know who you are (we’re the over 50 crowd).

Traditionally, we are the grandma’s to our children’s children. Maybe your kids thought you should be the always available babysitter, as they launch their careers, go out at night to relax, or be the drop off point for when the kids are sick and they have to work.

Well, while that might be fine for most, I am shouting from the rooftops…

I hope that’s not a shocker, but the ones that feel like me….Get It!!!

Don’t get me wrong, I love dearly all my grandchildren, I love having them over for sleepovers, taking them out shopping or lunch dates. I want to hold a very special place in their lives to help mold them and teach them things that only I can.

While at the same time, I know that there’s an even greater place or calling that’s on my life and that calling is what fills me with Purpose and Passion that I haven’t known before.

If you’re feeling this stirring, this rising up that’s pushing you forward to search for something more, something where your passions and purpose collide into something great.

Or maybe you’re longing for something more…You’re looking for Purpose, you’re work life has lost its luster and you’re wondering what’s next? You find yourself asking “Is this all there is?”

I so understand exactly where you are.

So I would love to connect with you…You can reach out to me and let’s talk. Get on my email list.

Don’t let another minute go by thinking that you’re the one feeling like this, thinking that what’s wrong with me or thinking that you’re just too old.

We need each other, so let’s connect and learn how to live these lives with more meaning and purpose than we’ve ever thought possible.

Are you using your Power Phase?

Are you using your Power Phase?

Are You Using Your Power Phase?

Are you using your power phase to moving you closer to your goals? Many of us don’t realize how important a “Power Phase” is to our own wellbeing.

First let me say that, I first heard of the Power Phase from Chalene Johnson, it was just one of those days were your surfing Facebook and she came across my news feed. The idea of a Power Phase intrigued me because at the time I needed a little reminder of my own greatness, and who else to remind me of it than myself.

Anyways; your Power Phase are the words that get played over and over in your mind, like a recording. So if your mind or thoughts are always telling you that you’re a failure, you don’t know what you’re doing, you’re not good enough, you’re not smart enough and the list can go on and on, then most likely you will be all those things.

The Power Phrase is something you can quickly go to when you’re having a moment that you don’t know if you can get through it. You don’t know if you can do it even though you know you should. Where you have self-doubt, where you have uncertainty, where you’re not sure of the outcome but you know you need to do this thing. You’ve got to get through it. You’ve just got to buckle down and realize that it’s going to be okay.

So in choosing to rewrite your Power Phase to something that pushes you forward, the likelihood of you reaching that mountain top is much greater.

Then what is a Power Phase…well I’m glad you’d asked?

First I’ll share mine and then give you a couple more examples of others.

My Power Phase is born out of my faith. So when I am feeling incapable, insignificant, beaten down and just unsure of myself,  you know when your confidence isn’t as high as it needs to be, I stop and remind myself…”I can do all things, I have greatness within me, and my God is Able”

As I repeat these things over and over to myself and even say them out loud all of a sudden, I’m feeling better, standing tall and confident, ready to tackle the world again.

It really is an amazing thing because, when you start to focus on a Power Phases and get your mind off all the reason why you can’t and begin to focus on all the reason why you can, all of a sudden everything looks a little brighter, you find yourself standing a little taller and you know without a shadow of a doubt that you can do anything.

So what would be a couple of example of other Power Phases you could use?

How about:

I Know I Can… Don’t Give Up…. Yes I Can…. I’ve Got This…. I’ll Show Them… I Will Finish Strong… This Is Possible For Me… Feel The Fear And Do It Anyways… It’s Not Gonna Kill Me… I Am Well Able.

Whatever short and powerful statement that you come up with to remind yourself that you are greater than what you’re facing.

Let’s put this into practice today,

I would love to hear if you have a Power Phase, how you use it and what is it. You can comment below!
